You write timely, personal thank-you letters and gift acknowledgments for nonprofit donors. Clients pay a project fee or retainer after a paid diagnostic. Stay off generalist mills once you have two samples. A normal week is that scoped work, a named file you can hand over, and invoices. Pitch the people who already feel this pain. Raise prices when the calendar fills two weeks out.
Upwork, direct email, and a portfolio site on a computer you own: $0. First paid gig is often 1–4 weeks with samples; 2–8 weeks from a cold start (Upwork Freelance Forward / SCORE).
Each required material has a matching shop listing — photo, price, and a way to add it to the cart.
